What Do You Want?

Hi sweeties!

First of all, don't take offense at the title, because it's meant in a positive tone. Literally guys, I'd like to know: What do you want with this blog now that we're already so far in the new year?

It's now 2018 and this blog has been running for approximately a year & a half already. We've had fun challenges, such as:

The challenges had prizes, such as a coloring sheet (drawn by me), or even your own image featured here on this blog!!

We also had a major giveaway in Christmas 2016, won by Silvia D. 

And in addition, we've got cute games and quizzes here for you to enjoy!

Last March/April we had a fun contest where those who correctly guessed a visual pun [from a popular Disney movie], won a cute coloring page. Can you try to guess?

In addition, for quite some time throughout 2017, this blog was running Review Wednesdays, where we'd do a video or photo shoot of some kawaii cute items. I am honestly planning to bring these back to this blog, now that I've recovered from the flu and am less busy since the Holidays are over... for now.

We also used to have a very fun part of this blog, called Feature Fridays. Currently, this blog is calling for submissions - it's free to be featured once, as long as some of these guidelines are met:

⭐ You're a kawaii artist, fashion mogul, YouTuber, blogger, or fan of the culture ⭐

We also still like to occasionally review characters or pop culture that may be considered 'kawaii', and weigh in on whether or not it counts.

Are You Doing the Challenge This October?

October 12 Review Wednesday

Hello, good evening! こんばんわ

Today is Wednesday, October 12, so that means a few things ^_^

1) It's Review Wednesday again, and this time we reviewed A Couple of Squares Inc. cookies again, Autumn edition. Only instead of a video, we're doing a written one:
    After dinner tonight, Rob & I each picked a cookie to eat; he got the orange pumpkin one and I got the brown acorn one. They both come adorned with a hand-drawn kawaii icing face (as pictured). They are semi-soft sugar cookies, and I admit they are softer than the ones I sampled a couple of months ago (see the review here). They taste very sweet from very sugary icing. They're yummy, but should only be an occasional treat. I highly recommend browsing www.acoupleofsquares.com

2) For today's #Kawaii365 daily art project, because Rob & I were on our way to the thrift store book sale (I found two treasures too! Yay!!) today anyway, I decided to draw a kawaii book on the back of one of my business cards and then leave it tucked into the shelves for an unsuspecting book shopper (I photographed this on my lap in the car, since they don't like photos taken inside Value Village).

3) And last but not least, we're still doing our #KigurumiChallenge across social media, so let's see those cute onesies you guys ^3^

Yes, I know it seems every month there's a new hashtag challenge on the internet. Some are fundraisers for charities, while others are 'just for fun', like this one. I want to see how far reaching this can go. Will we make it out of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada? How far do you think this challenge will reach?

The Wild Things...

Hello, konbanwa (good evening).

So, recently I was drawing one of my coloring books for Etsy and decided I wanted some background noise from the TV, so I flipped channels and came across a movie called 'Where The Wild Things Are' (2009, Playtone; directed by Spike Jonze). It is adapted from the popular 1963 children's book.

So in this movie, there is a boy of 9 years, named Max. He has a troubled home life and takes off by himself on a boat to an unusual island inhabited by 7 giant animal-like monsters (are they Kaiju? 怪獣). 6 of them turn out to be relatively friendly to the boy, but there is one who is very moody and keeps having tantrums, and threatening to eat Max.

Upon arriving to the island, the boy sees that they aren't getting along well or happy, so he tells them he is a king, and he has magic powers to restore their peace...

Now, what gets me about this [moderately disturbing] movie, is that Max, the human boy, was wearing a wolf 1-piece pyjama, and after awhile it dawned on me...

He was wearing a Kigurumi!



This appealed to me because this month (October 2016) is the main month of the #kawaii365 blog's #KigurumiChallenge which means I'd like you to put on your best animal or plushie 1-piece pyjama, and wear it in a semi-public place and snap a photo, using the hashtag above. Everyone who participates will gain some internet fame, as well as a free coloring sheet from me ^_^

And The Results Are In...

Konbanwa sweeties! *yawn* this is a late post, you're right. Today has been an eventful day, my mind is paralyzed, oh my!

I know today was going to be the start of the #KigurumiChallenge (seen below) but I was also one of the artists for today's #AlbertaCultureDays Chalk Art Festival (yaaay!)

This was a very exciting festival, despite the rainy weather we were having.

We had a very nice turnout, and I met some awesome fellow artists, so I am going to start by featuring them. I am going to start with our amazing winner of the gift certificate to Alberta Art and Drafting Supplies (and rightfully so, because I watched her skip lunch and put forth a huge deal of concern for her work. She also brought a whack of supplies and was willing to share, so kudos for being awesome Kara!)

About 30 min out from finish. Kara's piece is important because it talks of Endangered Species.

I love Mike's Captain Red Deer character!

Alysse's "I Have a Dinosaur for a Neighbour" is quite catching!

Amanda's Meandering River Landscape is just as stunning!

I appreciate all the detail Laura put forth in this one.

So Where is Daryl's (mine)?

Thanks for wondering. I decided, since this event went from 10am to 4pm, and then Rob picked me up so we had supper and I freshened up for work tomorrow. I didn't even really do housework. So, because of that time thing, I decided to let this be my #kawaii365 project to celebrate the first day of October (my favorite month!)

This photo was taken by a member of the Scott Block, where 3 of us artists were working. That is Kara squatting nearby, and the work in the forefront belongs to Amanda. The orange jacket is me ^_^

Coming in October!

Hey guys, I am excited! Want to know why?

Because, since starting this blog back in July, I am going to be doing my first hashtag challenge ^_^

This one is about Kigurumi (keh-goo-roo-me), the Japanese word meaning Wearing Stuffed Toy. You have probably already noticed, this is becoming a more popular practice already with adults in your region. Some people openly wear them in public, others only to private parties & anime conventions, while others yet wear them for warm PJs.

However, in October 2016, I will be challenging you to wear your own in a public place and have a friend photograph or film you, as well as people's reactions to it. If you can, challenge your friends to wear them with you and go as a group (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧

So please share your videos on your social media with the hashtag #KigurumiChallenge and #Kawaii365.

Yes I'll be wearing it around town also, here in Red Deer, Alberta. You're not alone!


Helpful Tips:

• Always go with a friend. This minimizes harassment and embarrassment.
• Make sure you're wearing clothes underneath, in case you need to remove it.
• Start small, like a run to a convenience store or to get the mail.
• Ask first if you can wear it to work or school, to make sure it fits within policy.
• If people say "It's not Halloween!" just reply with "Well, it is October, so..."
