Lyric Study and Roses

Konnichiwa friends!

So as many of you know, Rob & I celebrated our 9-year anniversary [of meeting] by going to see the live action version of 'Beauty And The Beast'. What an awesome movie!

Though it has a wonderful, romantic and exciting music score (don't all Disney movies?), there is 1 song in particular that I believe would perfectly tell the story of Prince Adam ('The Beast') and Belle, and the enchanted rose in the west wing.

Yes, that song is 'Kiss From a Rose' by Seal. Which is what inspired April 2's #Kawaii365 project:

Don't believe they could be related? Well, let's look at the lyrics and compare them to the Beauty And The Beast storyline...

There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea (the Beast lived alone in a dark, gloomy tower. His only companions were enchanted household items that are no longer human)

You became the light on the dark side of me (Belle came into his life and lit it up - literally, by demanding that he 'come into the light')

Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill (he was becoming 'high' on life with Belle, but not sure if it would 'cure' the curse of the enchanted rose)

Did you know that when it snows my eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen? (literally, the castle is so gloomy and the curse had made it an eternal winter there, always snowing)

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray, Ooh, the more I get of you the stranger it feels, yeah (the more time he spends with Belle, the stranger he begins to feel, because for the first time in many years, he is experiencing the hormones of falling in love and actually loving a human being!)

Now that your rose is in bloom, A light hits the gloom on the gray (the thought of Belle's love ending the rose-related curse shines a 'new light' (of hope) in the castle)

There is so much a man can tell you, so much he can say (Adam (the Beast) 'says' his feelings through gestures, like sharing his library with Belle, and by making an effort to behave like a gentleman in her presence. He does this to show she's important to him)

You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain, baby
(she is his 'power' in that she may very well end his curse, and his 'pleasure' in time spent together, and his 'pain' when he has to let her go and see her father - never expecting to see her again)

To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny, Won't you tell me is it healthy, babe? (Belle completely opens up and changes his world! He can't get enough of this new feeling and craves more)

Did you know that when it snows my eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen? Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray Ooh, the more I get of you the stranger it feels, yeah.. Now that your rose is, is in bloom, A light hits the gloom on the gray (see above interpretation)

I've been kissed by a rose on the gray (essentially he's been changed for the better, by Belle's unconditional love)

There is so much a man can tell you, so much he can say...You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain, baby! To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny, Won't you tell me is it healthy, babe? Did you know that when it snows my eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen? Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray! Ooh, the more I get of you the stranger it feels, yeah... Now that your rose is, is in bloom, A light hits the gloom on the gray (see above interpretations; Belle's love is lighting up the gloomy castle)

Now that your rose is in bloom, A light hits the gloom on the gray (Adam submits himself over to Belle in pure passionate bliss - because he has faith that her love with break the curse!)

This was a really cool revelation to have - not only is it so romantic it's almost tear-jerking, but it also makes a lot of sense ^_^

And though I am working on a myriad projects right now (painting projects around the house, Spring cleaning, decluttering, daily housework, drawing for the next coloring book on Etsy, reading the new Art, Inc. book from my husband (thank you!!), getting ready to publish a new eBook on Etsy (and getting ideas for another new one) - I still found the time to upload my last of 4 kawaii fruit-themed patterns to my RedBubble shop:

At first, I was just going to upload the picture of the woman in the tank top with the pattern I created this morning (around everything else), but then being a professional artist I decided to let my 'freak flag fly' and made it strange. Because, funny.

Anyway I would love to stay and chat with you sweet friends some more, but I have much work to do around here, lots of projects :D

Have an amazing Monday! xoxoxo
Daryl
